Divorce/Breakup Recovery

Breakups/Divorce can be extremely painful experiences. The roller coaster of grief and loss in addition to emotional or even physical or sexual trauma can make it challenging to return to regular daily life. The ending of a relationship can leave the people involved feeling depressed, anxious, betrayed, rejected, abandoned, angry, or even suicidal.

Sometimes relationships involve unhealthy patterns, where abuse and neglect (whether emotional/physical/sexual/spiritual/financial) are present. Without the proper treatment following a breakup/Divorce, it is highly likely the person will continue the same unhealthy patterns in future relationships.

One of my specializations in this area is recovery from partners who are toxic/abusive, specifically who displayed Narcissistic or Sociopathic traits. These include but are not limited to:

Narcissistic Behavior:

  • Grandiose sense of self-importance/high value of physical appearance, status, and that of others
  • Requires excessive admiration/attention to the point of exhaustion for their partner
  • Sense of entitlement, expecting automatic compliance and perfection from partner and others
  • Lacks empathy/remorse – seems emotionally cold, unable to understand or empathize with the experiences/feelings of others
  • Frequently manipulative/abusive behavior – “gaslighting” (trying to twist reality or make their partner believe they are crazy or overreacting), “double standard” behavior (they can get away with doing things their partner can’t), lying, guilt tripping, shaming/blaming, silent treatment
  • Exhibits entirely different behavior from the beginning when they “love bombed” you (showered you with compliments, affection, gifts, talked about future plans or said “I love you” or “you are my soul mate” way too early), then slowly began devaluing the relationship

Sociopathic/Anti-Social Behavior:

  • Narcissistic behaviors described above
  • Failure to abide by the law, previous arrest history or breaking laws
  • Deceitfulness, lying, conning people out of their money/possessions
  • Impulsivity/aggression/irritability
  • Reckless disregard for safety of others without remorse
  • Physical violence to people or animals
  • Failure to sustain consistent work/financial/legal obligations

You can also review the Relationship Red Flags Checklist to see more specific red flags for narcissistic behavior in both early dating and later stages of a relationship. If you are recovering from a breakup/divorce from someone who has exhibited any of these behaviors, please click the button below to schedule a free consultation to further discuss your therapeutic needs.

If you are currently living with the partner or family member who exhibits the characteristics above, I may need to refer you to your local Domestic Abuse Program or refer to another Therapist depending on the circumstances, but we will discuss your current situation further in the complimentary phone consultation to accurately assess your needs.

Counseling/Coaching:

Counseling: Under my Mental Health Counseling practice, I currently offer individual Mental Health Counseling services for Florida residents, as this is the state where my license is currently active. Soon, the law will be changing according to the Compact Bill, which will include more states where my license to practice Mental Health Counseling will cover. In the meantime, if you do not live in Florida, I can provide Coaching services. Please read more below in the Coaching section.

Individual Counseling in the area of Divorce/Breakup Recovery as well as Narcissistic Abuse Recovery is for adults who would like to work on Co-Dependency, Trauma, Self-Esteem/Self Love, Grief and Loss, Trust/Betrayal, Attachment issues, and more. If you have not already accessed the Narcissistic Breakup Recovery Checklist, please do so to get an idea of the goals I recommend working towards in your healing journey from a narcissistic partner.

Coaching – (Regardless of residence) I offer both Group and 1:1 Coaching services, which are a bit different from Mental Health Counseling, but still extremely beneficial to set action steps and work towards Goal Setting towards recovery from a breakup or divorce, as well as recovery from a toxic or narcissistic partner. In addition to individual Coaching sessions,

I currently offer a Women's Group Coaching Membership in a virtual setting for single women seeking a safe community of like minded women who desire to practice better holistic self care in the areas of Mind, Body, Spirituality, and Relationships.
