Trauma Work

Most people will experience some kind of trauma in their lifetime, such as a car accident, abuse or neglect (any form – physical, emotional/psychological, verbal, sexual), the death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, a natural disaster, the COVID-19 Pandemic. But Trauma doesn't just include the "Big T's," but also the "Little T's," such as a breakup/divorce (especially from an abusive/narcissistic partner), getting fired from a job, feeling betrayed by a loved one, or even moving to a new location. These experiences can all be threatening to our existence and cause injury to the nervous system.

While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress during or far after the event has passed.

In these circumstances, the support and guidance of a therapist is fundamental to healing from trauma.

Here are the different modalies I use in my practice to address trauma

(choose which ones best fit your personality):

Brain/Body Based Work

Energy Psychology (moving and creating energy in the body) such as Emotion Freedom Technique (also known as “Tapping”) to process emotions and reduce stress, and Eden Method techniques, based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and the work of Donna Eden

NeuroSomatic techniques - brain + body techniques based on Applied Neurology to calm the nervous system

Rewire Trauma Program - Virtual Library of Body Based Techniques designed to rewire the brain from trauma:

Trauma Informed Tai Chi/Qi Gong - slow paced, meditative form of Martial Arts, to relieve stress and tension

Trauma Informed Yoga - fixed poses to release trapped trauma stored in the body

Trauma Informed Dance/Movement Therapy - to release trapped trauma stored in the body

Trauma Informed Martial Arts/Kickboxing - to empower the client to take back control of their body

Trauma Informed Expressive Arts - healing trauma through Art Therapy techniques

Trauma Informed Sound & Music Therapy - using music related vibrations to heal the nervous system

Trauma Informed Drama Therapy - heal trauma through drama based techniques

Polyvagal Toning - Techniques based in Neuroscience incorporating the Vagus Nerve (largest cranial nerve in the body connected to the “Fight or Flight”/Freeze Response) to calm the nervous system

*** These programs are within the Rewire Trauma Therapy Program, which is a virtual library of modules taught by Trauma Informed professionals in their field. My clients get their own personal access to this virtual library of videos, which can be used either during or in between sessions with me as your Therapist. I also have access to these modules, which I have also learned and can assist as you apply these techniques.
